The model DD 98 8mm Tape Inspector Cleaner is a tape cleaner and inspector for 8mm cartridges that cleans and retensions tape without damaging the tape in any way. Data is more easily retrieved and protected with regular maintenence of the cartridges.

This unit features active flangeless guides (active extractor rollers) to run tape at 60 ips. The extractive roller is used to eliminate any possibility of edge damage. The optical defect detector records all positions on the tape which have been subjected to physical damage. These defect positions are stored in active memory and can be examined on control displays on the front of the machine.

The tape is automatically removed from the cassette housing, wrapped around four tissue stations, cleaned by a sapphire blade and optically inspected for defects. The automatically advancing tissues are made of non-shedding nylon material and clean both the oxide side and back of the tape. Two stations are located before the blade and two stations are located after the blade.

The operator can retract the cleaning blade from the cleaning path when tissue cleaning only is desired. The footage counter counts up in both forward and reverse when set in auto mode. Footage accuracy is not affected by short (non-standard) tape length. Removing power from the machine does not affect the blade life memory.
