Equipment Specifications
and Requirements: 1 x DCD MK3 compact disc shaping machine:-
The DCD MK3 CDSM is 3 ft 4ins deep 5 feet 10 ins wide and 4 feet
10 ins high. Because the machine itself weighs over 900 kilos it
requires a minimum rear access clearance of 18 ins for maintenance
and a minimum right hand side clearance of 2 feet for the control
box door access. This machine comes complete with a swarf and particle
collection system ready to be plumbed to a dust extraction system
via a 6-inch PVC pipe.
Performance
This machine was designed and built to consistently shape
500 complex shaped CD's per hour. It achieves this benchmark
and in fact exceeds it on a regular basis on most shapes.
On the simple business card shape this machine achieves
approximately 1,000 CD's per hour consistently.
Dust Extraction
System A 4-horse power Dust Extraction System,
this is capable of handling two machines.
Waste Removal
Each machine operation will require three (approximately
64 gallon) bins placed on the right hand side of the machine.
The waste from approximately 8,000 CD's will fill one bin.
Air Compressor
An air compressor and air storage unit is required to operate
the DCD MK3. It is used to open and close the stations and
to clean the finished CD's prior to packing. A compressor
of 12 cfm is standard and sufficient for 2 machines.
CD Bulk Spindles
Each operation will require a minimum of 12 CD Spindles.
Most of the CD suppliers ship CD's in shrink-wrapped stacks
of 125 units. The spindles are used to handle the CD's efficiently
in the loading and unloading of the machine and packaging.
Shrink Wrapping
Each operation requires a shrink-wrapping machine.
The shrink wrapper we use measures 18 ins by 20 ins as a
complete unit.
Loading Bench
A loading bench or work table of 3 feet by 8 feet and 3
feet high with a shelf 13 ins from the ground is used to
load and unload the CD's. This loading bench is constructed
in steel tubing with a pressed timber shelf and top.
Power Requirements
We can build the MK3 to operate using any Countries
power. At this stage US spec machines will run 3-phase power,
1 outlet per machine. The machine will run its computers
and lighting system, so it's basically stand-alone. The
Dust Extraction System will most likely be 3 phase in the
US.

Security
Security is an issue that needs to be addressed because
of the nature of the product both finished and unfinished
being handled. Each workshop should have a secure room or
storage area for this product.
Staff
The minimum staff requirements to satisfy the benchmark
output of the whole operation (500 CD's per hour) that includes
unpacking the raw discs, lining them up for shaping loading
and unloading the machine, cleaning counting shrink wrapping
and packing ready for shipping, is one person, to hit the
benchmark upper level a helper should be used to ready the
CD's for shaping.
Also included are a number of other items required to help
in the set-up of the CD projects for defining and drawing
the shaping paths for example;
· A comprehensive
computer system
· Scanner
· Modem
· Zip drive
· Software
· Cables, Hosing, Etc.
Manual A comprehensive reference and training manual is
also included.
